Common questions
International export — FAQ
Is there import duty on South African furniture in the USA?
South Africa benefits from the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which provides 0% import duty on qualifying timber furniture exported to the USA. This makes South African handcrafted furniture competitively priced even after freight costs.
How long does shipping from Cape Town to the USA take?
Transit time from Cape Town to the US East Coast is typically 18–22 days by sea freight. Air freight is available for urgent shipments. We quote both options so you can choose based on your timeline.
Do you ship fully assembled furniture internationally?
Yes — all pieces ship fully assembled. We custom-crate each piece specifically for international freight. You unpack and place.
What does international freight actually cost?
Freight varies by volume, weight and destination. A single Nguni dining chair to the USA typically costs USD 150–250 in freight and insurance. Larger orders are more freight-efficient per piece. We always provide a fully itemised quote.
What happens if a piece is damaged in transit?
All international shipments are insured to full replacement value. In the event of transit damage, we manage the insurance claim and arrange repair or replacement. You are never left out of pocket.
Can I order a single chair internationally?
Yes — we ship single pieces internationally with no minimum order quantity. For single pieces, air freight may be cost-effective depending on your timeline. We advise on the best freight option for your specific order.
